In 1973 Myron Stevens, a retired dentist from Milwaukee, stumbled upon a collection of wall paintings and hieroglyphics in a cave near Lourdes. His discovery was followed by decades of intense intellectual detective work by many infamous scholars that led to the deciphering of the hieroglyphics. The complexity of the cave paintings, as well as their entirely fictitious nature, meant that there were many conflicting translations, copious embellishments, and lots of making stuff up.
